These are baseline dangerous-goods rules, not a promise that every airline will accept every drone. Ryanair, for example, publishes a 100 Wh maximum for drone batteries, while other airlines use the broader approval framework.
Why spare batteries are different
A spare battery is not installed in equipment, so its exposed terminals create a short-circuit risk. Keep spares in cabin baggage and protect each pack individually using original packaging, a battery sleeve/pouch, a separate plastic bag, or non-conductive tape over exposed terminals.
What if my cabin bag is gate-checked?
Remove spare lithium batteries before the bag goes into the hold. Keep them with you in the aircraft cabin.

Can I fly with a 101–160 Wh drone battery?

How do I calculate Wh from mAh?
Multiply milliamp-hours by nominal voltage, then divide by 1000: Wh = mAh × V ÷ 1000. Use the manufacturer-printed Wh rating when available.
Can I fly with a damaged or swollen LiPo battery?
Do not travel with a damaged, swollen or recalled lithium battery. It can be rejected and is a serious fire risk.
